Education of Children

The goal of the children's educational program at West Hills Presbyterian Church is to allow children the opportunity to mature in their knowledge of our loving God as He reveals Himself in the Bible, in the natural world, and in the lives of the Christians around them. Luke 2:52 tells us that, "Jesus grew in wisdom and statue, and in favor with God and man". Every opportunity we provide seeks to accomplish the same thing with each one of the precious children that God has entrusted to our care. This is accomplished through comprehensive and planned activities and events through the year.

On Sunday mornings, classes are provided for children age 3 though the fifth grade. The She Me Jesus series, which is a Biblically centered curriculum published by the PCA, is utilized with emphasis being placed on creative lessons, scripture memory, application, and learning the catechism. Following a time of corporate worship with the adult church family in the sanctuary, children (ages 3 years old through the first grade) are dismissed to Children's Worship, led by our Director Of Children's Ministries. This is a unique, interactive time of music, prayer, and Bible teaching.

Programs are conducted on Wednesday nights for children in two age groups. Children from 3 years old through kindergarten get into God's worth through games, stories and Scripture memorization. Children from the first through the fifth grade are involved in KIDMO which is a time of interactive, multi-media Bible instruction. Children are engaged in learning and applying Bible concepts to their daily lives. Discussions and prayer time are important features of KIDMO.

In addition to regular Sunday morning and Wednesday night children's programs, there are numerous special events including family skate nights, vacation Bible school, lock-ins, Fun-in-the-Sun summer program, service and outreach projects, a Fall Family Festival, and summer camps.

All of the activities for children are Christ-centered. All seek to encourage children to have respect for God's Word by listening intently when it is being read; respect for adults and those in authority by being obedient and compliant to instruction, direction, and correction; respect for others by using encouraging words, and avoiding hurtful, mean, or cruel behaviors; and respect for themselves by not acting in ways that could damage their physical well-being or spiritual growth.
