Education of Middle School and Senior High Youth
The goal of the Youth Ministry of West Hills Presbyterian Church is to equip middle school and high school students to fulfill the worlds of Jesus in Matthew 22:37-40 as He quoted the Old Testament, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul and all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
To this end, the primary component of West Hills' youth ministry is the teaching of the Word of God. Education and discipleship takes place in three particular areas, Sunday morning Christian education, Sunday evening large group meetings, and weekly boys and girls small group meetings.
Christian education on Sunday mornings always focuses on an in-depth study of Scripture. The goal of Sunday morning classes is to provide a foundation of Bible knowledge and Reformed theology to equip our younger brothers and sisters to be lifelong students of God's Word.
Sunday night large group meetings are a combination of Bible teaching along with fellowship designed to foster fellowship with other believers and outreach to Christians and non-Christian friends. These elements combine to encourage middle and high school students to practically apply the above referenced Scriptures.
Weekly small group meetings provide middle and high school students with opportunities to grow in fellowship and discipleship. Groups are divided by gender, which affords young people with a forum to address gender-specific issues regarding their lives. Groups are led by Godly adults who provide guidance for the group while at the same time giving young people an opportunity to discuss matters appropriate to walking with the Lord as young men and women.
