Home Missions Committee Vision for 2010

For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me. (Matt. 10:38-39)

West Hills Presbyterian Church Session distributes no less than 10% of the general fund income to the Home Missions Committee. This ministry includes all outreach efforts that are in North America. In 2009, the Home Missions of WHPC financially supported eighteen home missionaries in six states. In addition, seven organizations are also supported on a one-time basis by the Home Missions Committee, including Joni and Friends, Compassion Coalition and Knox Area Rescue Ministries. Any increase in financial support will depend upon the annual giving by congregation members. Therefore, the Home Missions Committee encourages the congregation to continue supporting the general fund of WHPC.

Every other year (next conference in 2011) the committee will plan its Bi-Annual Home Missions Conference. This conference provides the congregation with opportunities to host guest missionaries, have fellowship opportunities, and learn more about their labor in the work of the Kingdom of God. Home Missions Committee Members are: Al Grant-Chairman, Eric Breeding-Session Representative, Ray Dean-Session Representative, Bud Kelley, Julie Moore-WIC Representative, and Alice Redman.

Good News Club at West Hills Elementary School – Contact Director Of Children's Ministries Mitch Townley

WHPC is now in its sixth year of operating a Good News After School Club (GNC) at West Hills Elementary School.  The GNC meets at the school on Thursday afternoons from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm.  During the 2009/2010 school year, 45 children participated in the club   Fifteen WHPC volunteers lead the club activities which include:  small group prayer and scripture memory time, music, Bible lesson, scripture memory review games, a missionary story, and snacks.  Volunteers also periodically have lunch with the students in the school cafeteria and attend special events.  The club utilizes teaching materials published by Child Evangelism Fellowship. The GNC can always use more volunteers to serve in a variety of capacities such as being a small group coach, leading music, teaching Bible lessons, preparing snacks for special occasions, and being a part of a prayer team that prays for the children and their prayer requests.

Stinnett Elementary School Witness - Contact Director Of Children's Ministries Mitch Townley

In October 2003, WHPC “adopted” Stinnett Elementary School in Stinnett, Kentucky as their “Mission of Hope School”. The Mission of Hope is a volunteer organization, serving people throughout poverty-stricken rural areas of Appalachia in Southeast Kentucky and Northeast Tennessee. Adults, children and youth volunteers travel to the school in August to deliver backpacks and school supplies and then again in December to deliver Christmas gifts to students, staff, and teachers. During these visits the Gospel is presented at assemblies through music and drama.

Opportunities for Congregants to Outreach in Home Missions
